And that is the way the Wire Act is written. But it’s entirely ineffective in the internet era because you can just operate from Curaçao.

Right, as I’ve said throughout, I think we should legalize and regulate. Not ban. Prohibition will not work, it will only force people into sketchy offshore options. If you make it legal but difficult, you can actually have an impact (and also better track for IRS purposes).

Take back both houses of Congress and it’s a simple majority vote. But it’s also possible (and surprisingly easy) to remove justices for bad behavior. You don’t even need to use impeachment and its (effectively impossible) super majority requirement for conviction.

I’d be more inclined to believe that if there were not a zillion legal ways for anyone wants to gamble to gamble (horse racing, lottery, bingo, poker rooms, etc.). People with the gambling bug are going to bump into it sooner or later, and then it’s just a question of if we want some control over it

Me: I’m a degenerate gambler and this would not make any difference Everyone Else: I barely gamble but this seems like it would make a major difference. If your argument is that it might deter people from discovering gambling, eh, I doubt it. But it def won’t help anyone who’s already hooked.

If the legal age is 21, you cut out the majority of students right there. In that sense, a more regulated platform makes sense, because an offshore book has no reason to refuse bets from anyone old enough to pay for them.

Right, that’s why I favor some restrictions on online gambling that keep people going to legal sites (ban advertisements, cold calls, increase requirements for ID verification, etc.) rather than abandoning the entire legal online gambling apparatus and allowing the black market to fill the void.

Just so I understand, is your concern about athletes going into debt specifically? Because you say you’re concerned about college athletics but then that you’re not worried about athletes’ behavior, so I’m not sure I’m tracking your concern.
