In #CoreMaths#MathsToday we finished off the APR topic, looking at multiple repayments with some unknown. The biggest challenge is find with this type of group is the wide range of prior experience - some students with 4-5 or 8-9 in GCSE Maths, and some who haven't studied any maths in over a year.

Eva borrows £3000 to expand her business. The bank offers her an APR of 12% over 2 years, with the first repayment after one year and a final repayment after two years. The final repayment is £1900. How much should the first repayment be?

I’ve always tried to avoid that formula as much as possible! I make them write out big tables just so I don’t have to see it 🙈 I know what you mean about the challenge of mixed classes with this kind of percentage work. Some of them can do it in their sleep but others REALLY need the practice.
