Every rich person is a libertarian right up until they realize the only mechanism for contract enforcement without the rule of law is drug cartels killing each other’s entire families

A lot of the reason we are in this mess is elites saying "this is horrible, someone ought to do something. Not me tho. But someone"

Refusing to vote because no one meets your idealistic standards is childish and obtuse. Either Harris or Trump will be president, and you increase the likelihood that it will be Trump if you don't vote for Harris. So, in effect, you are helping evil win.

There's a lot to this. Folks inevitably live their lives inside a mentally-constrained model of what society *is*; what it can do; how it changes. For most folks, war, civil unrest, depositism, mass-detentions etc are things that happen to other people on the same screens that you watch fiction on.

Actual reporters have actual things to do and actual places to be, which costs a lot of money. Pundits may seem ungodly expensive, but they bring in more views. People have parasocial relationships with them. They tell people what they want to hear. So they’re worth it.
