Every rich person is a libertarian right up until they realize the only mechanism for contract enforcement without the rule of law is drug cartels killing each other’s entire families

Guess they never watched The Wire, or The Godfather, both of which were schools on the subject.

I was dismayed when a fun fact YouTuber who didn't seem right-wing defined "truly owning" property as not having to pay property tax, as if ownership is about being left alone with it & not about getting help when someone takes it from you (& being part of fucking society)

Some time ago, reading a blog post from a libertarian who was _quite_ precise in detailing what kinds of government, and to what degree, he wanted to have, I realized that most libertarians don't necessarily want _less_ government so much as the exact amount that they could use, at that moment.

libertarians are hilariously vocal in general until the real-world impact of their shit ideology manifests, at which point they all get quiet as little church mice

I mean this is more or less why so many post Murray Rothbard Libertarians tended towards "minarchism" I.E nothing but a police state to protect property which evolved into the "dark enlightenment" which was minarchism + an intellectual argument for an anti-democratic state to facilitate capitalism.

If you want a vision of the future imagine a bunch of nervous lawyers disguised in Halloween masks negotiating whether your delay in replacing a shipment of damaged furbys means they kill your sister or just cut off three of your toes

On the old site, in answer to the question of who is the most influential libertarian in the last 50 years, I nominated Pablo Escobar.

Every rich person is a libertarian right up until they wake up in a Motel 6, in a bathtub full of ice, missing a kidney, and "Hobbes was right" written on their forehead in Sharpie.
