Reminder for instructors to maybe extend your students a bit of extra grace: I've had students mention to me that the ongoing med shortage is making it harder to stay on top of their assignments.

Does anyone have entertaining, feminist pop historians they like on TikTok or YouTube or wherever? (Text-based is actually better but I don’t think people are doing blogs anymore.) Tossing around a new gift book idea and don’t know where to start on finding an author

benefits of travel by train over airplane or driving: * fewer people in any one place * No TSA and no security theater * pace of travel relaxed and comfortable * scenery and personal space plentiful * no chance of having to drive * boarding far less of a pain in the ass * autistic solidarity

Biology skeeps 🧪 I had a fun discussion with the GRN students at MBL on this question: What are some (correct) ideas in biology that people had BEFORE the data came in? There aren’t many! We are soooo bad at guessing how life works Here’s what we came up with (🧵): please add your own

Leaving #SFN2024 after a great time at the behavioral neuroendocrinology meetup—it was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too! I will say that the biggest thing I learned this year however is that traveling by Amtrak rocks. Super excited to get to see the scenery on my way home!

I'm just absolutely living for this #sfn2024 discussion between Lisa Feldman Barrett and Kent Berridge. Makes me miss animal communication as I keep thinking about acoustic self stimulation and sensory exploitation and how they follow these models of emotional genesis and regulation in animals.

I'm excited to be in Chicago for #SfN24 representing the Alward lab and UCLA! Stop by my poster tomorrow from 1-5 p.m. to learn about the neural and molecular mechanisms of subordination, featuring brand new single-nucleus RNA sequencing data from our AR mutants! 🐟🧠🧬

Super jazzed by @alexxai.bsky.social#sfn2024 talk on VP as a driver of specifically non-homeostatic (above caloric need) feeding behavior; it's one of those things where I'm going to have to chew on & digest implications before I can come up with good questions.
