The Republican Party hasn’t had a non-incumbent rise to the presidency without the aid of institutional capture of rotten institutions since 1992. That it has happened both of those times without even a popular vote victory is rancid icing on the putrid cake.

The irony here is that if Dems had taken the presidency for a third consecutive term either in 2000 or 2016, it is quite likely that republicans would have won legitimately in 2004 or 2020 respectively.
