I have resolutely stuck with Android all these years so that when the rest of the family goes looking for Lightning cables, I can shrug and tell them it's not my problem. The universal adoption of USB-C is going to be a problem for my plan.
Sometimes people don't tell you exactly what they're going through. Sometimes they're just going through it. You don't see the weight on their shoulders, so assume it's there. Too often, we don't.
