First impressions of (very dense) Employment Rights Bill: - general point: more in here than expected - provisions on ZHCs/guaranteed hours look substantive - significant detail on right to reasonable notice of shift cancellation (& compensation) - fire & rehire provisions look substantive

I agree in general. But I think the very dense provisions on ZHC hide the fact that all of the actual detail is left to Regulation. You can’t tell what the new right is based on the Bill alone.

- union recognition: abolition of rule requiring 40% support in favour of simple majority = very significant - substantive proposals on right of unions to access workplaces - proposed 9 month probationary period is (very) cautious: 6 months would be reasonable (more akin to OECD norm)
