We’ve got to start calling this stuff what it is: big autocorrect. I don’t want my health diagnosed by autocorrect. Or to watch a film written by autocorrect. It’s either a mechanical Turk, at best, or otherwise it’s Clippy at the singularity. It’s not what they’re saying.

It's not auto-correct, it's auto-complete. A very fancy one. Even useful, with suitable guardrails, in suitable contexts, when used as a tool by experts that know what they are doing and what its limitations are. But definitely not a solution to all our problems, or the end of the world.
I've been calling it glorified autocorrect since day one. Sometimes it feels like being the only sane man at a loony bin or Tory party conference

So when the bubble bursts, how much damage will do to the economy, I wonder?They haven't made a profit yet, don't have enough employees to make a difference, but are valued like big players in the markets. And they spend money like nobody's business, burning a hole in their pockets and the climate.
Like all ‘new’ tech this is driven by people promising everything to get funding then vanishing into the night before people finally stop and think for a moment…
They basically figured out the talking bit of creating true AI, but nothing else.

I preferred to call them automated bullshit engines. Text produced without any care for the meaning of the content is bullshit. With reference to Harry Frankfurt's "On Bullshit".
