Just one of the reasons I love my corner of France. This is Puilaurens, a Cathar castle fortress, practically impregnable as the only access is via the winding stairs. It forms part of a chain of impressive châteaux about to become World Heritage sites #history#ancientbluesky

Was wondering why this had suddenly got lots of likes. Thanks for the repost! 😊🙏He is indeed very cute. I have a replica but it's definitely not of the same standard! Haha! He is my favourite thing in the NAMA alongside the Bronze Zeus/Poseidon of Artemision. 🥰

This reticulated beaker has an inscription in glass letters: FAVENTIBVS. It’s an expression of good luck (perhaps short for "Faventibus ventis" – with favourable winds). The ‘cage’ of the beaker is also glass. These items are the pinnacle of Roman glass craft 🏛️📷Kunsthistoriches 🏺 AncientBlueSky

This beautiful beryl intaglio depicts the formidable Julia Domna, a key figure in establishing and maintaining the Severan dynasty in the early C3rd CE. It’s a gem, literally and metaphorically 🏛️📷NY Met 🏺 AncientBlueSky
