every few years we get a new study that confirms that UBI has literally no downsides. this latest one even says it's beneficial to the conduct of capitalism. the only reason UBI isn't adopted globally is that the ruling class is religiously wedded to the idea that the plebs should be miserable.
The results from the world’s largest Universal Basic Income study are now in. Findings: “A monthly UBI empowered recipients and did not create idleness. They invested, became more entrepreneurial, and earned more. The common concern of “laziness” never materialized.”
Money always helps, but for the poorest, one large lump sum can last a long time. A long-term universal basic income also looks promising.
Once you have "enough" money you start craving power over others.
Absolutely they do. Sadistic enjoyment from high on top. They get to live however they want and we have to live by their rules to survive or else they cut off what we all need to live, money. We're the only species on this planet paying to live here.
Those in power gained power in the status quo, and UBI will change the status quo, which makes it risky to those in power. This is why UBI must become a major demand by voters and activists, because power concedes nothing without a demand.
Just figured I'd post this where it might be appreciated. There are many ways to remove the rich from positions of power. And IMO there's something to be said for a governmental system where the more money you have, the less power you have. Every citizen that is jobless should have veto power.
"If we don't give the rich enough money, they'll lose the incentive to invest; as for the poor, they've lost all incentive because we've given them too much money." - George Carlin
I have been reliably informed my entire life that beneficial to the conduct of capitalism is commulism actually
I'll never get over the fact that the capitalists are so greedy that they couldn't stand having mildly reduced profits under Keynesianism, even though that social contract would have guaranteed their dominance indefinitely
Of course it is. This is the part everyone seems to miss. All that "welfare" actually DOES trickle into the economy, thus boosting the middle class and making us less dependent on corporate entities. It's like when people had more food stamps, food banks had more. Why? Poor people are more generous.
I think this would be such a great idea!
Because the rich are the lazy and idle class, they just assume everyone else is as terrible as they are.
