It's crazy how good games look on the real thing. Dreamcast games look as good as a PS3 somehow - I also feel the lack of younger people experiencing the N64 on a CRT has caused a lot of confusion about how mind blowing those graphics were in the mid-90's
Something about scanlines and bloom really does become like this awesome sort of smoothing, antialiasing effect. I spent a lot of time trying to recreate it with Reshade filters and color correction and you can get pretty close. CRTs are just a cool, weird technology. Games really did look great.
I was amazed at just how good anime on DVD looks on CRT when I started picking up old singles and box sets a couple of years ago. On ours, especially our Trintitron-alike, they look near-Bluray quality.
