I get excited whenever the carbon intensity of the UK electricity grid is below ~100g of CO2 per kilowatt hour of electricity. The 2023 average was 162g gCO2/kWh But just look at this figure - in 2009 it was regularly ~600. We ARE making big changes. Hooray! Source: tinyurl.com/48dwzz33
~ The cleanest half hour at the start of that annual chart would be dirtier than the dirtiest half hour at the end.
I never realised it was so high before. I've been really trying to lower my carbon footprint, mainly by giving up driving and flying, and getting solar and batteries.
Yes! We can! 🤩
It’s the continuation of the downward trend I find so impressive at the moment. It’ll inevitably shallow out at some point but for now it’s awesome 😎
Thank you for sharing. This is the kind of positive view I needed today. 👍
It’s good news but all the good we can do in our little corner of the planet doesn’t balance the CO2 pollution in mega cities like Jakarta, Mumbai, Shanghai or São Paulo. This is the depressing problem for me that counters your excitement.
Well, you can be reassured that there’s at least two of us, although no-one should be in the same club that has me as a member 😬 I go “la la la” when I see what countries like Sweden are doing, as they’re regularly around the 50g mark 😉 Honestly, really it makes me excited that some do so well 😁
