Things said about Unitarians: - just a coffee club - where atheists w kids go - for people who miss singing -mixed-religions neutral zone These are just in my personal experience. I like all of these. How people worship matters not to me, but they better not tell me what to do.

I used to believe these things about Unitarians. Then when my kids were young and my husband was teaching in Oklahoma and being pressured to join a "church home" we figured the Unitarians were a choice we could stomach. We left because the explicit racism of middle class white people was astounding

I did know a unitarian. She did have a kid, and definitely was into the singing. But I would not have defined them as either atheist or even agnostic, just rather theist-light, with some clearly Christian religious themes. But yes, they didn't tell other people what to do.

Well, let me add that Unitarian Universalism (UU) does not have a creed or dogma of any sort. Instead, it has a covenant WITH THE COMMUNITY which we choose to join or not. The U's in UU each have long histories. And THESE are our principles, to which we aspire and fall short.

I'm listening w some sadness but without total surprise. UU's are not without their own stripe of scum and I've seen my share. They want so desperately to be good but they're hyper-conscious of not controlling people, among other reasons. I stand beside my belief that UU is a good place for many.
