Politics for the uninvolved is just vibes and its hard to get better vibes than a chill conversation
With the election being a coin flip I was thinking “if Trump gets elected again we’re really going to have to think about how we can take care of people in our local community and keep them safe/healthy” but then I thought if Kamala gets elected we should probably also do that
kamala's got hundreds of millions of donations and tons of strategists backing her. she doesn't need scolders on the internet to help her win. your local organizations for left movement and labor power? odds are, they need anybody they can get, DYING for help. there, your efforts matter.
they also are totally unfamiliar with basic budget stuff. the 60 Minutes guy had no idea most of the Trump tax cuts are going to expire next year
I wish more understood how liberal transphobia works. Vague commitments to "LGBT rights" on paper while ceding ground to right-wing, being vindictively harsh on trans sex workers, prisoners, anyone facing workplace/medical bigotry and all trans organizing more militant than the non-profit complex.
it's not a 1:1, but it's like what's been happening in the UK. a bunch of people who are at dinner parties you aren't, who are in party strategy meetings (and you aren't), and have a lot of money and connections (and you don't), keep passing panicky "my kid is trans?!" posts with each other
you'll say "it never wins elections!" you are correct. "republicans attack on it and it never works out for them for elections, frequently not even in the south" again, you are correct. but "it doesn't work" and "it isn't popular" aren't what matters here in the dem consultant/strategist world

the liberal equivalent to "angry leftist who can't make a phone call without breaking down" is "guy who'd rather hide in a cave than deal with an extra two minutes on fox bashing democrats like how they already do, that they do not even watch themselves"
it's an expression of what MLK talked about, negative peace, prioritizing order over justice. just focused down to an incredibly pathetic, petty, cowardly level. so desperate to avoid any sort of necessary conflict and confrontation that "fox news adds 30 extra seconds of yelling" has them panicking
