Ah, I read that on my first flight to Boston for a visit and, yeah, that also was a Major Brain Rearranger.
Tonight, 8 pm CST: new episode of my podcast "A History of Comics in 500 Issues." This one is on British comics during the 19th century leading up to Comic Cuts #1 (1890), the most important British comic of the century. Also about the notable creators & publishers. patreon.com/jessnevins

Yeah, and I'm not even counting my dive into Joyce because that was the subject of my senior thesis and I feel like that's an entirely different kind of reading experience. Like of course that's going to take over your life.
Reading "Infinite Jest" at New College was my number two reading experience after "The Stand." I think reading "2666" up here in Boston is No. 3.
I am talking about this with @brendanotoole.bsky.social but I snagged a copy of "The Stand" at age 11 (yes way to young but I found it at a BOOK FAIR) but I fucking lived inside that book for most of sixth grade.
RIP Bernie Mireault. I just got The Jam Beginnings book; I hope to get to it soon. Also, re: what's covered in the video: Matt Wagner's Grendel is something that I skipped at the time, but looks interesting in retrospect
God, I just want to see the story done properly. And maybe we can figure out an ending without the LITERAL Hand of God.
I honestly think the only way to do "The Stand" properly now would be as an alternate history period piece. It's so of its particular time.
Same! The last mini-series was maybe the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. That "Captain Trips" section is the most cinematic thing possible and everybody keeps screwing it up!
