Shrouded, geared steam locomotives, used in urban environments specifically designed not to spook horses. I wonder what other machines were modified not to scare animals? the NYC one is a Shay, the UF (Boston) is a Climax.

That’s really cool, but I’ve never thought anyone used your locomotives in cities; were routes really vertical enough with tight enough curves to justify them?

I LOVE the NYC Shays. What's cool is that two of them ended up operating on shortlines in CNY. 7185 first ended up on the Owasco River RR, then went to the Marcellus & Otisco Lake RR before developing a frame crack. 7187 took 7185's place on the M&OT after the former was returned to NYC, then Lima
