yet another 19 year old groyper incel tries to harass a lecturer off campus. i’ll be waiting — presumably until i die of old age — for campus free speech warriors to make any note of it

A student objected to a class, “The Problem of Whiteness,” and tweeted the lecturer’s photo and email address. Hate mail poured in. What should the school do?

This really struck me. Stone claiming that "back then" (in 2014) they weren't thinking of online threats. Come on. Twitter was eight years old at that point.

"Geoffrey R. Stone, a law professor, led the faculty committee that drafted the Chicago statement. He said that back then, the group was not thinking about how online threats could harm free expression — never mind this situation, where Mr. Schmidt simply posted a tweet with publicly available information." "Back then" was 2014!

If this isn't against the student code of conduct already it should be added. In this day and age this kind of behavior is dangerous

The same University of Chicago that had Bret Stephens as their commencement speaker a month ago? Why, I’m shocked that they would allow harassment of their faculty with no repercussions.

Once he gave her email to his many followers he incited harassment. Right to do this? Yes. Without critique or consequences? No. Plus he’s obviously a coward and an ignoramos.

Sorry Conor is much too busy fisking an editorial in a campus alt-weekly from 2021 to follow this story, plus even then he’s got to really scour VDARE for the good points they may make to respond. Have they made any good point? Yes, and he’s got a 7,000 word cover story next month to explain them

Then I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to learn that FIRE came out in support of the lecturer’s right to hold her class back in November!

The article said she was a lecturer, but she’s actually a teaching fellow, likely even more precarious (i don’t know her contract, but that’s common). Women are more often in these roles, and women instructors are more often targeted by the right. Gendered hiring creates these vulnerabilities too

I think it’s fair to say that concerns about “free speech culture” are not evenly distributed. Whether or not this conduct is protected, it’s absolutely harassing and intimidating, and absolute suppresses speech at least as much as shouting mean things at conservatives.

one of my favorite professors told a class that the Reagan administration must’ve been on drugs. a student wrote about it in the campus conservative newspaper. the next lecture, he spent giving a PowerPoint presentation with all the evidence the Reaganites were on drugs. she dropped the course.

You’re challenging Ken Popehat White to the Extreme Centrism Challenge™, but he hasn’t taken the bait. 😟
