More culture war energy policies from the UK. Now it’s solar being restricted because of apparent worries about food security. Reminder: golf courses take up 7x more space than current solar farms as @drsimevans.bsky.socialwww.theguardian.com/environment/...

Wouldn't be a problem if new houses were built with solar already installed, and solar panels can still be used on suboptimal grazing land.

Have we done areas used for shooting yet? Must be huge scope for solar on moorland.

And they graze animals or grow stuff underneath from what I've seen. Put solar panels down the middles of motorways and on car parks.

Food insecurity is already raising its head as one of the most widespread issues of global warming, and it will most likely only get worse. But we clearly need both solar power and food. IMO it's going to require more thoughtful land allocation than what this policy seems to propose.

Food insecurity is a worry.. But why is solar going on farmland. There are some brilliantly creative ways to use solar in ways that are positive & don't waste farmland

My nephew in France works for a company putting solar cells on municipal buildings. Hospitals, carparks, fields.... You name it.
