Also the tax stuff is mostly because Discovery got suckered into a loser's deal by ATT, they are 60 billion dollars in the hole and neither of the 2 companies that formed the new one made billions in profits (Discovery had 13bn in debt already) Oh yeah and ATT got to appoint half the board
Like I'd bet money that 99.999% of people who watched the George Clooney one had no idea it was a remake because it's 1. like 2-3 generations later 2. completely different in tone and style
Well the thing is when they remade Ocean's 11 I doubt there was anyone alive saying "They should remake Ocean's 11" right? Like that movie didn't have any fans left by 2000 lol Anything you're a fan of probably doesn't warrant a remake because the original still has fans
I think the main issue modern remakes have is they remake *the most popular movies/shows* to cash in on name recognition Whereas you should be remaking either bad productions with good ideas or completely outdated classics

The thing is mid-budget movies, as a group, lose *alot* of money that's why studios went bankrupt left and right in the 80's and 90's.
You say that but then some of my favorite movies are technically remakes (I'm sorry but Ocean's 11 is fantastic, the original is bland as hell)
