Google search utterly fucked Trying to look up reference photos of 1920s hair styles and clothes for a Call of Cthulhu scenario I am doing the art for. AI trash making it completely useless and 50x harder than it used to be Recommendations are welcome on photo reference archives I could use!

If you can check on Twitter/X there is an account called "Fake History Hunter". She's always posting about Medieval history but also early 1900 and I'm sure she can help you with several references.
You can add -"prompt hunt" -"open art" at the end of your search request and it will scrape away most of the crap. You can also do the minus sign and put the name of any AI art company (midjourney, etc.) between the speech marks for the same result. Bit of a faff, but it works.
gettyimagesgallery.com/collection/1... hopefully some use? Got a couple more….
I am partial to my local photo library, the site is available in English, although the annotations are in Norwegian. (Try searching for “mann” or “kvinne” – man/woman) marcus.uib.no/search/?from...
The Library of Congress has a lot of period photos and is especially good for early #c20thwww.flickr.com/search/?user...
You might try the Library of Congress website. Poke around on their photo page. They've got all kinds of stuff.
It’s so disheartening sorting through the churn of airbrushed, charmless, unusable AI landfill. Even on commercial photo libraries.
