increasingly my advice to junior academics is never speak to a journalist unless it's live. you are their data and they do not understand themselves as having a duty of care to you, your reputation, or your work

Tenure has helped me be able to say things to administrators that other people in my institution were too scared to say. I teach at a medical school with lots of untenured faculty. The difference in willingness to advocate for needed change is stark.
