@sarahebond.bsky.social@fade.bsky.social I bet you both have ideas that would help this artist!
The catalogue for the National Gallery of Art’s 2008 exhibition on Pompeii/the Bay of Naples is good for early Imperial visual culture.
@mikoflohr.bsky.social perhaps you have suggestions?
Do you know Bret Deverealux's work? Acoup.blog is a very rich resource.
A look at history and popular culture
Every second Gen Xer and Elder Millenial on here has softback of this in the back of the closet. Great intro, lovely images.
Any particular part of the empire? Answering for Britain: Osprey book series e.g. Roman Military Clothing are really good for clothing. Guy de la Bedoyere has written some great books on Roman buildings and towns. For art, try the British Museum book Roman Britain: Life at the Edge of Empire.
For art and architecture, I like the Oxford History of Art series. There are volumes on both (by Jaś Elsner and Janet DeLaine) - good colours pictures
Greek and Roman Dress from A to Z (Routledge, 2007) is a great resource!
Because I am here now :P
