When politicians use pruning and weeding as metaphors on cutting spending, we need to remember we’re talking about people, not plants. Cuts don’t make us healthier, human culture doesn’t grow back stronger after you harm it.

I’m looking for articles, essays about alternative economic models to austerity (regarding arts funding but in general too) that I can understand as a layperson. Any pointers?
