I think a lot of people in UK HE (and outside it) misunderstand how international student recruitment works. And, in turn, why it biases towards established players. Particularly those in London. So a quick thread. Because it is legit fascinating (as someone peripherally involved in it). š§µ/1

I think it's because they don't really believe they are employed. They feel that they are funded to pursue their own interests, and if they work harder they'll get more opportunity to do that. The requirements of the job are hurdles they have to pass to get at 'their' work, resented but required
Somehow, today marks ELEVEN years since I handed in my PhD thesis. And only six jobs since then!
