I recently started working at the Magnes Collection. The other day I saw a newly acquired Haggadah from Metz, 1757. Designed like Talmud with core text and commentaries. Wine stains. Gives me the chills

In Judaism we talk about “disagreements for the sake of heaven.” In the Talmud, when matters of Jewish law can’t be resolved on the page, there’s a cute acronym that’s basically, “someday Elijah the prophet will show up and tell us who won but until then 🤷” Not all disagreements are bad or wrong.
