Enjoyed discussing the Hereford Mappa Mundi today. Here's a version converted into modern political borders, to give you a sense of how the world looked from Hereford c. 1300 (source: www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/co...)

A man in a tall hat with an orb in it and a robe labelled "Irony God" points to himself and says "I, the God of Irony, will enter an irony contest to show that I am the most ironic." He handily wins the contest and gets handed the "most ironic" trophy by a man in a tuxedo who says "congratulations, Irony God! You've won the Irony contest!" The Irony God gloats "this went exactly as expected..." He then considers "which isn't very ironic." He immediately starts melting while shrieking "NOOOOOOO!" He cries "I am in indescribable agony!" The man in the tuxedo looks shocked.

The Economist has published a deeply-researched story about car bloat -- and it's very, very damning. "For every life that the heaviest 1% of SUVs and trucks save, there are more than a dozen lives lost in other vehicles." Well worth your time: www.economist.com/interactive/...
