If it is of national importance to have national capacity for major civilian aircraft manufacturing it should be part of your industrial strategy and not rely on keeping a mismanaged private company alive. If not, there's no reason Airbus shouldn't be allowed to outcompete them.

Oh, I agree with your first statement. There's a hell of a lot we should've done years or decades ago to prevent this. But the idea that we could/should now just throw up our hands and let Boeing fail and take most of our aerospace industry down with it is absurd.
