Indeed. Another issue is what we call a "crime" and what we prosecute. Elon Musk committed outright securities fraud, filing fraudulent documents with the SEC about his Twitter purchases. The fraud netted him $200 million. He won't be prosecuted. He *might* be compelled to pay a fraction of that. 🤷♂️
Thankfully he didn't do something really bad, like cash a bad check. Then he might face some jail time.
seems like financial crimes are a great way to make money.
Yep. Or just the more general problem of rampant tax evasion. Thankfully increased IRS funding seems to be making some progress in addressing this.
The SEC investigation is ongoing, a prosecution on the back of it doesn't seem impossible to me inshallah.
Not to mention the drugs and what not that aren’t on the permitted list for defense contractors. But he’s too big to be stopped, apparently
Who gets criminalized and who gets a slap on the wrist is a huge part of what perpetuates the class divide. People in poverty steal a loaf of bread; they're criminals and low-lives. Boss puts people into poverty by stealing wages from them; he's not a criminal. He's just a shady businessman.
