one of the most off-putting things to me is when people are just completely incurious. i know there are good reasons people feel like certain things aren't for them (non-blockbuster movies, art, etc.) but like at least be willing to try them man

Not a defense of incuriousity but there is a an incredible amount of media produced that isn't meant for me, and that's totally cool, I hope its audience enjoys it. This is the tack I take instead of getting upset about popular things that sound/look like shit to me.

I have friends who say things like “I don’t know what X is and I don’t want to know, don’t tell me” and I’m just like “genuinely cannot relate”

Yeah that's weird, like I have my preferences but I'm always open to see if something is going to be the exception even if most of the time it's not.

I’ve never understood it, but I feel like some people are afraid to find out how much stuff there is in the world they might be missing out on so they just avoid it

I quit working at a theater company because I realized that this was the overriding mentaility of most of the members. It's just Impossible to make art with people like this and remain sane

idk, I feel it's perfectly fine to, say, conclude that a film is hours I could have spent listening to music instead I'm no renaissance woman and I don't aspire to be a jill of all trades

I had a grad school classmate who was the most incurious person I’ve ever met & her lack of imagination was baffling to me. I’d test her, try to find topics she was interested in, & nothing. Not even her own research. The only topics she ever spoke of with enthusiasm were dieting & exercise.

Completely agree. I have two friends who haven’t read a new book since college or watched a new movie in years, all they do is consume the same things over and over, and they’re like almost proud of it? It’s like, “you know your time on earth is finite,‘right? You need to expand your horizons.”

i was just listening to a discussion about how the greater amount of options available to us have made a lot of people less curious because looking through all this noise takes work, where just falling back on "well i know THIS, i don't know that THAT is and so don't care" is much easier
