those rules, like Ars Magica, are designed for active play and dynastic management over generations rather than "and now we cut ahead 120 years"

you don't even need to bother with a different ruleset, because L5R's rules are genuinely pretty good - they hit the right balance of flexible/adaptable but also with tons of additional cruft for people who want it

every so often I go back into the books and think "man, a generational L5R campaign - one where you do 8-10 sessions for the characters and then skip forward a generation to their descendants - would be totally baller"

the problem with Legend of the Five Rings is that while it is obviously problematic, what with it being a fantasy samurai RPG written mostly by white people, it is *also* extremely cool

DISTURBIA when it came out - the Teens in front of me and my dad were being loud and talking all through the opening credits, which was bad enough, but then my dad *screamed* at them "I WILL CALL THE MANAGER"

A man skritches the back of his dog's head. He stops and the dog looks over longingly. The dog puts a single polite paw on the man's arm. The man goes back to skritching the dog's head.

Whew. I hear that, thankfully, today is a rest day. (If this makes no sense, the joke is in the alt text)

A screenshot from Farscape with an alien woman all in white and John. The plot of the episode is that they are on a planet where the ppl are forced to mine for ammo for weapons but they donā€™t know that. They are told every day that tomorrow is a rest day but every day they work because they have these parasite so in them that affect their brains and make them agreeable.

at this point i think ā€œharris needs more detailsā€ is just the way, refracted through consumption of punditry, that these voters are saying that a) they donā€™t pay much attention and b) they donā€™t want to vote for a woman www.nytimes.com/2024/09/28/u...
