It's insane that he doesn't understand how flawed the childcare business model is. He actually said that the problem is that childcare is expensive because there aren't enough childcare providers. Oof
Almost 30 years ago my dad was seriously considering becoming a SAHD because childcare for my 2 siblings almost (but not quite) matched his earnings minus gas, and that was an employer-subsidized facility. (My stepmom worked there too but was an engineer, whereas he was an engineering assistant.)

Yeah - that situation sounds very generalizable. Seven weeks, and she's right as rain. Totally makes sense that he comes to the conclusion "this is what you do". ... now, What's a sabatical...? We only get layoffs. And ya' just keep grandma in the garage, right? Sure. That tracks.
