There was also a gaggle of students who somehow decided my name is The Rock. Kindergartners are wild.

K: “are you a girl or a boy?” Me: “I’m a mix! That’s why I’m Mx. Piper!” There’s one kid in particular who smashed “Mx. Piper” into one word, and calls me “Mixer.” Very fun.

K: “how come you’re a girl AND a boy?” Me: “cuz there’s cool things about being a girl, and there’s cool things about being a boy.” K: “yeah!”

K: “why’s your hair look like that.” Me: “cuz I think it looks cool.” K: “you look like a boy.” Me: “thank you!”

K: “Are you a boy?” Me: “No.” K: “Are you a girl?” Me: “No.” K: “What ARE you?” Me: “I’m just a kid.” K: “you’re not a kid!! You’re a grownup!!!” Me; “allegedly.”
