A month since the Cumbria Wildlife Trust announced their bid to buy and ecologically revive Skiddaw Forest. They're 91% of the way there, but donations have slowed. Chip in if you can to help get them over the line. And please share this post.

In Cambridge students are assigned examination numbers which are not the same as their ID card numbers. The key to the codes is not used until after the exam results are collated and grades assigned.

"Results of the first randomized controlled trial of single-dose HPV vaccine, published in Lancet Global Health in March 2024, showed greater than 97% efficacy against the HPV16 and HPV18 strains at 36 months among women in Kenya." Imagine virtually ending cervical cancer.

Yes I have an old research collaborator who lives in Finland and who extols the virtues of heat pumps used in older properties there.

Yes our windows are a weak point for us. All single glazed and draughty frames and doors. Also moisture is an issue as the back of the property is built into a hillside and below ground level. The ventilation helps to lower the humidity!

I think there is a case to be made for focussing the assistance on the vulnerable but I’m not certain of the best way to achieve that. As someone with both state and occupational pensions I certainly don’t need the winter heating allowance.

That’s encouraging. We also have a stone built 17th C Grade II listed property in the Dales but most local heating engineers recommend staying with a high temperature heat source (oil).

Very nice to see Chris Boardman describe this video, which is based on our motonormativity research, as "an exceptional and important piece of journalism" ☺️ m.youtube.com/watch?v=-_4G...

This is an excellent piece and well worth a read. I do think it slightly skirts around the question of ecosystems and ecosystem collapse. It mentions the impact on birds, but of course it’s more systemic than that. 1/
