incredibly funny that of all the people who have mounted third party bids for the presidency in my lifetime, ross perot was the *most* serious
To this day, I don't think I've seen footage of the real Ross Perot. All I know of his are his portrayals on SNL and children's sketch comedy show All That.
.... yeah
Go watch Dorktown's series on the Reform Party; parts 2 and 3 are Patreon exclusive until next month, but part 1 is here. youtu.be/NqqaW1LrMTY?...
An underdiscussed part of the 1968 election is how Wallace almost achieved his plan. His plan to throw it into the contingent election and use the south's voting block to roll back civil rights. It would have happened if he won TN, SC, and NC. He was only 217,436 votes (0.30% of the total) away
I believe one of his main ideas was a 50 cents a gallon gas tax. So shines a good deed in a weary world.
This is an incredibly illuminating fact about the American psyche. And the comment about Wallace having been 0.3% of the national vote away from winning enough of the South to throw it to the House, too!
he had the best shot, and if he had stayed in the race in '92 instead of jumping in and out he might have gone all the way. people were fed up with bush.
Deep cut Grew up in Texas. A friend's dad worked for EDS. If you know, you know
Is this Ralph Nader erasure? (my memories of the timeline don't always seem to be straight line. LOL).
