Wonderful talk by Lynn Fortin on "Embracing our changing language." The opening lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales shows Middle English had very flexible spelling, capitalization, punctuation, pronunciation. Rules for "polite" and "educated" English came about only in the 18th cent. #CIEP2024
