Since there are so many new people, let me implore you to please please use alt text. It allows disabled people to enjoy the internet as well. (It's me, I'm disabled people)
I dunno. Is including Disabled people worth it? Is being accessible on the most basic level worth it? Alt text as an HTML image attribute is over 30 years old. If your solution to generative AI is excluding screen reader users from being part of communities, maybe the communities aren't worth it.
What I love the most about bluesky is how including the alt text is more the norm than an afterthought the way it is on twitter. People are more willing to make an effort for #accessibility! About 80% of images on my feed have a description and thatโs just so refreshing to see. ๐ฅน
Another #accessibility thing I haven't really seen being mentioned: Camel Case tagging! If you use a tag, please make sure to put a capital letter with each new word. This will help screen readers distinguish the words in a tag. It also generally makes it easier to read! Example: CamelCaseTagging
Posting this again because a lot of people said they found it helpful! Guide to ALT text: www.perkins.org/resource/how...
