As someone who is an old-school weirdo, I feel like anyone who canât parse the difference between weird (neat) and weird (gross) is just being weird (willfully obtuse).
i think a big part of why the âthese guys are weirdâ message is satisfying is that theyâve had an unchallenged lock on âwe represent mainstream middle americaâ as a brand for decades even as the stuff they were talking about got wildly outside of the mainstream and now itâs finally being challenged
I think all the previous attacks on policy and even rightfully calling them cruel and hateful didn't phase them because it still allowed them to feel and seem powerful. They didn't care if you found that power good or bad, it's still power. But weirdos aren't powerful at all, so they're shook.
