it's kind of funny that we have this miraculous technology of the telephone that allows you to talk to people all over the world and call emergency services like ambulances to you and we have given up entirely on regulating spam calls and so no one answers it anymore
The fancy new stuff has to be backwards compatible with the crusty old stuff with protocols and standards that date back to 1876. Imagine if cars still needed to be horse-compatible and you have a grasp on the legacy issues associated with telephony.
That & anyone who's ever had a customer service phone job has 'being on the phone' ptsd
That's why I only answer if they call twice 😭
Thank goodness for answering machines. If it's important they'll leave a message. I accidentally answered the phone once. Guy tried to sell me an extended warranty on my vehicle. After listening to his long sales pitch I said, "Sounds great, but I sold that vehicle 9 years ago." He hung up on me. 😭😂
Same with emails - filled with spam and ads. Just iconic as a species.
The best thing about my phone is that I don’t have to use the phone. I hate the phone.
Warms my heart inside just a little when i find out a spam call center has been raided and everyone involved convicted and jailed for years.
Hell, mail, I keep getting credit offers.
my mom accidentally set off her medicalert device, and then when the service called, she didn't answer because she didn't recognize the number cue emergency calls to relatives in three states and one mildly annoyed ambulance driver
