It saddens and angers me that a person notorious for blatantly lying on his social media accounts to puff up his companies and investments gets this kind of coverage for unsupported assertions of the same kind.
Brain chip start-up Neuralink implanted a device in its first live human subject Sunday, Elon Musk, the company’s founder, said on social media. The patient “is recovering well,” Musk wrote Monday, adding that initial data from the device was promising.
The device’s aim is to allow patients to control devices like phones or computers with their thoughts. Clinical trials are open to some individuals with quadriplegia.
There's some small, incidental cleverness that comes from not using press releases and instead belting out off-hand remarks about how amazing everything he claims any impact on is doing. It's just enough lack of a record that he can lie to anyone sufficiently credulous and lazy.
If he lied about it, he might be subject to legal challenges from his investors. It also has been done before by other companies. So it's probably true.

They are basically all accessories to securities fraud and stock manipulation.
I have so many questions that I can only assume the article leaves unanswered. Did an IRB or gov't agency approve this? Who is the patient, and what is their story? What does "recovering well" mean? etc.
If this is the future I'm glad I'm close to the exit gate.
It’s like they just void out parts of the factual record that anyone engaging with the news is aware. Or maybe the reporters aren’t aware?
Me, a former news editor: Where was the procedure done? How big was the team? Who, from that team, is mandated to speak to us? What can you tell us about the patient (obviously without identifying them)?
The fourth estate is a joke. Media is tabloid infotainment.
