One of the luckiest photos of my life. Pileated woodpeckers sound like something from another era and they are also very elusive. Nest was about 1/4 mile from our coastal home. The next year a hurricane came through. The nest so compromised the tree that it broke at the nest. #pileatedwoodpecker
