Feeling very sorry for myself having been laid up in bed for last 24 hours with headaches, cough and streaming snot. So I’m off to my happy place.

No idea why, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Donald Trump is such a soul-bereft person that he probably has never felt awe at or appreciation of the beauty of the natural world and has no idea that’s possible. He is just so alien to humanity in every way.

A woman collided with a road and died. *Taps earpiece* I’m sorry, I’m told that she and her two dogs were out on a walk and a guy hit them with his motor vehicle. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

If Mark Milley -- who worked directly with Trump as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- can call Trump a "fascist," what's holding anybody else back? www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

Behold government funded weather machines.

Jenrick's reply profoundly fails to understand the legal & historical context. Magna Carta yada yada had not prevented a string of miscarriages of justice in UK courts; but the European Court of Human Rights had addressed some UK state excesses re the Troubles. Hence the GFA requirement of the ECHR.

I was in Northern Ireland last week and I am honestly still quite shaken by the extent of division and trauma that continue to loom very close to the surface. Not a situation to play fast and lose with. And why nationalists would accept a British Bill of Rights instead of the ECHR is anyone‘s guess.

The only way the United Kingdom can quit the ECHR is by breaching or re-negotiating the Good Friday Agreement. And Ireland and the nationalist community in the north of Ireland are not going to re-negotiate the GFA so as to remove fundamental rights. No way round this for Jenrick and the Tories.

Instead of reporting outside in a hurricane to show viewers how windy or wet it is, TV journalists should report from an oil refinery and explain why the world has become so dangerous.
