A question for my sociologist friends/colleagues: what was your pathway into the discipline? What made you want to pursue it as a discipline? In talking with undergrads, I find almost no one goes to college/uni to become a sociologist. Rather, they find their way into the discipline at some point.

I'd have to say watching Coming to America in the theater in Douglaston, Queens--when Prince Akeem asks Semmi, "But where in New York can one find a woman with grace, elegance, taste and culture? A woman suitable for a king." Everyone in the theater went nuts when they answered simultaneously.

What's classy if your rich and trashy if you're poor?

And for the sociologists in the room, remember that ASR rejected Granovetter's Strength of Weak Ties manuscript, which went on to become the one of the most widely cited papers in the discipline.

RIP Johnny “Hockey” Gaudreau, killed by an alleged drunk driver while bicycling on the eve of his sister’s wedding. Bike fatalities have nearly doubled in the US since 2010, as cars have gotten bigger, drivers continue to be selfish asses, and cycling infrastructure remains minimal.

The $249 price tag is a pretty high barrier to entry. I've been making almond milk for years with an ordinary blender and a $6 nylon bag. I love the idea of getting more people into making plant-based milks at home. It takes a little planning, but it's very easy to do.
