Forgotten Wars and the British Army in Northern Ireland are both quite good.
I lie awake at night wondering in dread if something I slapped together after no sleep and too much coffee to get the Chief of Staff off my back is going to end up on Defense Charts.
‘“Billionaire” celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans’, you say? Reminds me of someone…
I’ve got to admit that I don’t know a lot about the French experience, so I’d be interested in Hunzeker (looks at prices online and flinches). Getting back to Samuels, I wonder why he didn’t think The Hundred Days were worth a look, for example?
Interesting insights on the development and application of doctrine on the German side but his evidence from the British side seemed a bit selective. I also couldn’t help but think that finishing his comparison on 21 May 18 left the book looking a bit like Hamlet without the Prince.
Some great finds there, @mark18681918.bsky.social
I mean, you can’t go wrong with Peter Stanley, can you?
Oh, very much so, and the history of 2/30 Bn is part of each company’s induction training. Each rotation does at least one battlefield tour and usually gets to Kranji (most rotations spend some time in Singapore on exercise with the SAF).
…oops, that was actually back in 2013, not 2023!
2/30 Bn’s heritage is maintained today through 2/30 Training Group at Butterworth, Malaysia. 2/30 Trg Gp provides the HQ and admin/log support for rifle companies deployed on 3-4 month rotations to Butterworth. I had the good fortune to be acting CO 2/30 Trg Gp for about a month in 2023.
