Great to see the Brisbane Lions win the AFL Grand Final (especially as I am an old Fitzroy Lions fan from the VFL days)

Had a surprise visitor in the backyard this evening who I have just relocated to our local State Forest.

I may be stretching the definition of history a bit in a couple of different directions for #histbookchat#photofriday this week

Paperback copies of two books “The Odyssey” by Homer and “The Arms of the Future” by Jack Watling

Amazing what you can download onto your Kindle for free on Amazon Prime #histbookchat#photofriday

Cover of the book “Fighters over the Fleet’, by Norman Friedman, depicting three Grumman F6F Hellcat fighter planes of WW2 vintage flying over two aircraft carriers and a number of other warships.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a #histbookchat so here’s two books that arrived in the mail yesterday. Between a family connection to 2/31st Bn and being a gunner myself these books tick a couple of boxes for me.

Covers of two hardcover Australian military history books - “Crossed Boomerangs: A history of all the 31st Battalions” and “The ‘Letter’ Batteries- the history of the ‘letter’ batteries in World War II”

This is a pretty good dissection of a book and author I am embarrassed to admit I took seriously around the time it was published. (Although, even then, I was unimpressed when he wrote about topics I was more familiar with, like 20th century warfare)

I scored a few Australian military biographies at the garrison library while I was doing reserve work this week - thanks to the poll I ran on Twitter, I’ll be making a start on Morshead this weekend #histbookchat

This week’s #histbookchat#photofriday is borrowed from one of the O-6s at the HQ I am working at as a reservist at the moment. Showing an interest in his professional library didn’t get me off the hook for the tasks he was handing out, though.

This instalment of #histbookchat#photofriday (a re-read after maybe 20 years) might be a bit of a counterpoint to my last entry.

No SWPA content in this instalment of #photofriday#histbookchat (sorry, NGFHQ), but it has been inspired by the job I have been given today as a reservist.
