Carbon tax Q: the BC's budget has a table comparing net carbon tax bills for various household sizes/incomes across provinces. As I'd expect, it shows net benefits in AB, SK, MB, ON - but net costs, even for low inc families, in Atlantic provinces. Doesn't make sense to me. Insights welcome.

Ontario yesterday repealed "Bill" 124 - a law passed by the leg and proclaimed by Lt Gov-- via order in council, rather than legislators repealing. That's because S 40 states "On the day this section comes into force, this Act is repealed." Is this common?! Have Courts ruled on this approach before?
It was a simulation. Students were playing Premiers and PM, and Nat Res and Env Ministers from Canada, BC, AB, SK, QC, NF. Still smiling at what a fantastic job they did, including having to dig into the policy docs.
Just taught a 3-hour seminar and my students were all f'g brilliant. They had taught themselves everything I wanted them to learn (about what the oil/gas emissions cap reveals about cleavages in the Cdn federation). All I did was reiterate key points at the end. Sometimes I really love my job.
Lots of applause for the oil and gas cap framework today. Yay in 2026 the fed govt will regulate a sector that's doubled its emissions since 1990! Praise for a govt backing off on a plan that was already falling short. I don't buy it's the Sup Ct. I'm discouraged because I fear it's us, Canadians.
Agreed the govt’s communication could always be better, but we tend to overlook that the biggest challenge to public understanding is the simultaneous wave of misinformation. Those getting their info from the Conservative Party greatly overestimate costs and underestimate benefits rel to others.
