I wonder how the whole Trump crypto venture he keeps teasing fits into this, especially the failure to really launch it. Are they scamming? Have they been scammed? Is the volume of scamming on TS so high as to make it unpalatable now? All the press hits the same notes as these pig butchering scams.
Almost as if that’s the main purpose for the site to exist. To scam large sums of cash from the most gullible people, sending it to Russia where it then finds its way back to the owner of the site.
I’m astounded at the amounts people lost. It’s scary that they were able to convince them to part with that much.
Is it possible (or probable) that scammed users are keeping quiet about it, except for the complaints, as so as not to harm the image of the lead scammer? Specially since the lead scammer is notorious for, you know, scamming people for the last 60 years? This is kinda fucking sad.
Of course not. Scammers are often willing to extend professional courtesy in target rich environments. Besides, if we're both ripping off the same folks and I out you, you'll just out me.
It's just pig-butchering scam after pig-butchering scam. This sort of thing is exactly what those weird accounts that post generic inspirational glurge, follow 10k people, and wait for followbacks are engaged in.
I would love to see the rate per 100k users compared to other platforms

Me: there’s kind of a weird lack of romantic scams, given the vulnerability of the people on Truth Social. Also me: ohhh, right. Of course that kind of scam is more insidious because people don’t want to report it.
In an ideal world, they'd be removed by some combo of auto-filtering and user reports from people who realized this was a scam before cashing out their retirements? (I'm guessing manual all-new-user sweeps by T&S staff aren't viable at their scale.)
