Happy birthday to the inimitable Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) journalist, philosopher, civil rights hero. Born into slavery, she documented & campaigned against lynching, & went on to co-founded the NAACP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ida_B._Wells
Someone on Mastodon described Bsky as "a bunch of people hanging around in the parking lot after the mall has closed" and I thought it was A) accurate and B) pretty great actually
Welcome to Home+ It's the Home feed Blue Sky was missing until now: A feed that shows those you care about, and adds interesting content from your extended social circles It's the first fully algorithmic feed that offers a twitter home like experience, but without the engagement hacking
Fwiw, I like this form of moderation. Moderation by user instead of by content. If someone is a “bad actor” again and again, add friction to their posts each time. Idk how this works if they create new accounts. But will at least remove their reach.
as people have pointed out in replies, block party does this! i built the feature bc it made no sense that i had to suffer through seeing abuse when people actively wanted to helped me. a few additional thoughts on implementing delegated moderation: (cont’d)
I’ve said the word “protocol” 1000 times this week… about 980x more than I’ve ever said the word in my life. A protocol is basically a set of instructions for how different machines or apps communicate 💻
people are gonna be so fucking mad once they figure out what decentralization means lol (I expect this instance to moderate in line with mainstream expectations, once the team has time to get the tools in place, but there will be other clients and instances that don't)
a “protocol” is when one computer and another computer love each other very much
