Always have my eyes/ears open during the autumn trapping in the wood, thinking "surely this year, maybe today?!" But never had one there. I wonder how many actually occur *in* woodlands? (observer bias aside).

I've found 5 YBW in woodland at my inland Dorset patch, the last record in 2020. Usually only find them if calling as there's a lot of cover! Yesterday a found a Firecrest in a rapidly moving LTT flock, but still hoping to see a YBW this winter! 🤞

Very good question! The bird yesterday was remarkably hard to see. Almost silent and despite apparently sticking to the same few m of hedge (really only two bushes that it was seen in) it was only seen for a few seconds every couple of hours.
