Where this question over US intel gets interesting is the level of operational planning involvement by Iran, which is a high priority intelligence target for the US. But yesterday's WSJ story notwithstanding, there are lots of reasons to be skeptical
Especially when this part of the world is such a priority for Israel and its advanced intelligence apparatus and technology.
So before you conclude this was a *US* intelligence failure, think a bit more about where Gaza/Hamas ranks as a priority for US national intelligence assets and analysis. The answer is probably "not high on the list." And that's as it should be.
